What is Pushover?

Pushover is a smartphone app that receives push notifications. Unlike SMS, push notifications are free to send and offer features like custom sounds and priority levels.

How It Works

  1. The team member installs the Pushover app on their smartphone
  2. They register at pushover.net and get their personal User Key
  3. The User Key is added as a channel to the team member's profile – like a phone number, but for push notifications
  4. Messages to the team list are delivered as push notifications to this member

Setup

Pushover is configured per team member. Each member who wants to receive push notifications needs their own Pushover User Key added to their profile.

When to Use Pushover

  • Alert notifications that don't require SMS
  • High-volume notifications where SMS costs would be prohibitive
  • Situations where internet connectivity is reliable

Tip

Pushover works great alongside SMS. Use Pushover for routine notifications and SMS for critical alerts that must reach recipients even without internet.
