Email to SMS

Send SMS messages directly from your email client. No software to install, no special apps – just send an email and the recipient gets an SMS.

Direct Addressing

To send an SMS to a specific mobile number, use this email address format:

Format

+[country code][number].[teamname]@tmsg.de

Examples

Mobile Number Email Address
0171 1234567 (Germany) +491711234567.myteam@tmsg.de
+43 664 1234567 (Austria) +436641234567.myteam@tmsg.de
+41 79 123 45 67 (Switzerland) +41791234567.myteam@tmsg.de

Note

Always use international format with country code. Remove spaces, dashes, and leading zeros from the national number.

Message Content

Both the email subject and body are combined into the SMS text. For longer messages, they are automatically concatenated into multiple SMS parts.

Example Email

To: +491711234567.myteam@tmsg.de
Subject: Server maintenance
Body: Tonight at 22:00 - expected downtime 2 hours.

The recipient receives:

Server maintenance - Tonight at 22:00 - expected downtime 2 hours.

Message Length

Characters SMS Parts Note
1–160 1 Standard SMS
161–306 2 Concatenated SMS
307–459 3 Concatenated SMS

Tip

Special characters (ä, ö, ü, €, etc.) reduce the maximum length per SMS part. For best results, keep messages under 160 characters.

Sending to Team Lists

To send an SMS to all members of a Team List, use the list's email address:

Format

[teamname]@tmsg.de or [teamname]-[extension]@tmsg.de

Examples

myteam@tmsg.de – Main team list
myteam-alarm@tmsg.de – Additional list for alerts

All members configured to receive SMS will get your message.

Sender ID (FSMS)

The SMS sender ID can be configured in several ways:

Default: Team Name

By default, your team name (truncated to 11 characters) is used as the sender ID.

Fixed Sender ID

You can configure a fixed sender ID in your team settings. This overrides the automatic generation.

Dynamic Sender via Email Subject

Use the control word from-(...) in the email subject to set a custom sender per message:

Alphanumeric (max. 11 characters)

Subject: Server alert from-(ZENTRALE)

Numeric (max. 16 digits with leading +)

Subject: Server alert from-(+491719999999)

Note

Allowed characters: a-z, A-Z, 0-9. No umlauts, special characters, or spaces. Numeric sender IDs allow recipients to reply directly.

Scheduled Sending

To schedule an SMS for later delivery, add date and time in the email subject using the control word ##D ...##:

Time only (same day)

Format

##D hh:mm##

Example

Subject: ##D 07:55## Meeting reminder at 8:00

Date and time

Format

##D DD.MM.YY hh:mm##

Example

Subject: ##D 24.08.25 14:30## Appointment reminder

Note

Time format: hh (00-23), mm (00-59). Date format: DD (01-31), MM (01-12), YY (two-digit year). Timezone: Europe/Berlin (CET/CEST).

Multiple Recipients

To send the same SMS to multiple numbers, separate them with commas or put each address on a new line in the To/CC/BCC fields:

To: +491711234567.myteam@tmsg.de,
    +491769876543.myteam@tmsg.de
Subject: Team meeting at 14:00
